Photography

In the last couple of years I have rekindled my love of photography.  I have started taking some classes and I am really enjoying all that I am learning.  I will post some of my pics on here.  This picture was taken the other day when we asked the guys from our community pasture to come and rope a calf so it could be treated.

Oh Spring… where are you.  Here in Saskatchewan it is still winter, the yard is full of ice and snow.  The only sure sign of spring is the baby calves that have started coming.  I am on the early cow check shift.  Check until midnight then up at seven with the little man.  I don’t really mind, anything I can do to help my husband out so we both get some sleep, otherwise things get pretty cranky around here in a hurry.  On the nights that I have to work the next day I check at ten then up at five.  We do have cow cams in the corrals but of course if it is storming you can’t see anything and have to go out in the minus 15-20C weather with the spotlight.  I do not however walk through the pens, I walk all the way around though.  As I told my husband when we first started dating and this was all new to me… cows grow fangs at night you know.  I know it is silly but I have a healthy respect (some may say fear) of cattle.  They are way bigger than me!!  I was working full time until October of last year but went to part time to be able to spend more time at home with my son and help my husband on the farm.  We have lived on the farm my husband grew up on since 2006. I knew a little about farming when we met but I am always learning more.  Staying home part time is giving me the opportunity to learn even more.  Some days I already ask myself what the heck was I thinking but I am mostly loving every minute of every day!
